A few bits turned up over the weekend to help the build along. Water pump and gasket kits..Oil cooler sandwich plate with thermostat..And a short oil filter as space is getting tight.. Just waiting for a few more bits to turn up before a visit to the lock up.
Today has been a very long slow busy day i'm glad it's come to an end i'm in agony but very happy i've got this far. Today started of at 7am with me putting the water pump together...I then made my way to the lock up with water pump and breakfast in tow. When i got to the lock up breakfast got demolished like i had not eaten before. I was now ready to do some work. In one sitting i fitted the rear outer crank pulley i then fitted the water pump pulley and dismantled the oil filter and water oil cooler. I was knackered so took a break while checking my handy work..
Round two and more work to be done. Still not 100% with full strength but the cylinder head had to come off so out with my home made breaker bar and with the use of my thighs pushing against the breaker bar all ten head studs were cracked... With the head of.. i opened a pack of these.. And started to install them one by one hand tight and took another much needed quick break..I then un wrapped a new metal head gasket and fitted that into place... And that is where i had to stop the day had caught up with me and had taken it's toll.
Fitting of lower plastic pipe and new thermostat with new o-ring was a 30 minute job but hey at least it's warm and dry for this time of year) while i was laying on my back looking up thought i might as well fit the oil cooler stat and oil filter. That was 15 minutes start to finish so it seems things are healing up for me...
I knew sooner or later i was gonna have to deal with the shifter cables. I've been here before, that was when i changed from cable clutch to hydraulic clutch now the shifter cables are to short so once again back under car looking up and getting an eyeful. At least the sun is holding out today even though i saw a few drops of rain i was adamant rain or shine shifter is coming out... Had to dismantle these two to get to the shifter from underneath... It's a good thing that i'm lean and got long arms so there was enough height to do what i needed to do.. Job done shifter with gaiter is from lupo the other one is from audi tt. I will be taking the two and making one
I am glad my updates inspire you Maybe if all go to plan we will meet in person at a show sometime in 2015 and have a laugh with a cold beer taking cars

Did not do much today as was feeling abit week so popped down to my mate Sam's Garage with my shifters in tow and since he has some vice clamps it just made my change over so quickly. He even timed me just to see how long it would take. 7.5 minutes to complete and to end my afternoon on a good note Sam made me an offer i could not refuse. 20.00 Pounds for this package it will come in as a spare.. Some thing to play with over the long winter nights.
