i have read this thread and it makes great reading!

I must say that some 'exaggeration' has been added to the equation by drew - that part is obvious.

I drive a faster mk1(2litre 8v-hot cams, flowd head etc) than him and it handles better than his (on konis)and I struggle against cars of the speed of the 350z.......

so all I have to say is, the smell of sh1t is getting stronger.

We travel all those roads very often as we live in Folkestone, and must agree it's a terrific area for fun driving, not that we really race anyone, and cabbies are heavier anyway.......
If we see you, Drew, we WILL NOT BE TEMPTED.......would love to meet up one day out there and have a good look at your car. SUPERB

   Gti's rule....end of story.

Mk1's are quick but not THAT quick! [:D]

The 350Z driver was a bit of a grandad, to be honest and probably driving nowhere near the full capability of the car, whereas I wouldn't really have been happy or able to go much faster.

Both the lotus and the nissan left me for dead on straight bits and they weren't slouching then, but I think they didn't have the confidence on the bent bits. Quite a lot of corners around there which start off easy and tighten up. Not unusual to see cars in the ditches!

[recardo montalban voice over]And there are many many ditches on the Marsh...[/recardo montalban voice over]

    Cheers,

    Drew.

jesus, all this got a little outta hand didnt it?

its just a story of sum 1 having some fun on some back roads, its not a competition,it dosnt have to be fair game-they didnt know the roads,so what, will drew be disqualified???

and the statement that the mk1 was a good quick car in its day may be true but i dont know if the same can be said for the r32 these days???
although i think they are very nice motors.

anyway none of the above matters as im disregarding everything written after the quote at the top.
    The story was good

sorry,u guys type too quick 4 me

My my my alot of people seem to be throwing their toys out of their pram. Yes R32's are great and I would love one, I also love MK1/2/3/4/5 (getting a bit fat at the Mk5 range but hey)I think this thread got out of hand a bit without people realising, drew I enjoyed your story and I think the fun part which you were trying to get across is that such a old car can still be great fun and give new cars a run for their money. The R32 is amazing and I hope I could possibly afford one, one-day but for the time being im going to have fun with my 1990 Mk2 1.3 (I know it's not that fast but its still suprisingly quick sometimes)Oh and I am blantantly not saying my 1.3 could beat a R32 lol. Moral at the end of the story = people should enjoy and respect other peoples cars for every mans is his own and should enjoy it for how he drives it not mine is faster than your's as you never quite know ;) . (If that made sense :p )

Well done Drew on 'winning' - but there are also plenty of new cars that would beat the old ones with the right driver who knows the roads ;)

Drew, You really dont want to be putting any more "notches" in your dash. It would make it look horrible and could need replacement! ;)

Right -- lets sort this properly.

Get your new cars on track and i'll have some fun against them.

<cue vids of Porsches, Westfields, MG ZT 180's, M3's Mtech Z3 etc all going past me backwards)

The only benchmark I have to hand is my best ever Blyton time.

    1 min 12.4 secs.

    Any takers?

    Cheers,

    Drew.
