    Morning,

hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Yesterday me and the kids went out for a drive in the 20v drove lovely for 20/30 miles stopped off for a bit.

then on the way home along the motor way the car started to judder under acceleration then started firing on 3 cylinders, but kept going back to firing on 4 just really temperamental.

Managed to limp it home, stuck it in the garage until this morning i checked all connections, fuel pump still priming but will only fire on 3 cylinders today.

do you think this could be Coil pack as ive just done a service and replaced the plugs

fuel starvation maybe (blocked injector/filter) didnt change filter in service [:s]
    all comments welcome

    thanks

As you have changed the plugs, I'd check all the plugs going to each coil, as the insides can break up.

Also, find out which cylinder is playing up by starting the engine and removing & replacing each coilpack plug one by one. If the note of the engine doesn't change when removing each plug one by one, you'll know what cylinder is playing up.

Once you know which cylinder is paying up, you can then swap the coils over. If this causes the same problems on that certain cylinder using a good working coilpack, you either have a problem with the wiring going to that cylinder, or it could be a faulty injector or injector wiring.

    Hope that helps mate.

this morning it ran very lumpy

so all i did was swap the coil pack around and ran the car.. it ticks over

then i went around and unplugged each one (engine note changes every time and engine runs lumpy)

I also did this to the injectors ( same applies again)

However when i add revs the car coughs and splutters. and goes to stall

could a vacuum leak cause this?

Replaced the fuel filter today. As i thought could be blocked. (Looked old)

Car doesn't even want to tick over.

Runs for less than 10sec then dies.

    Ive checked for vacuum leaks.

I have no idea what to do next

    No way !

Was anything else touched other than changing the fuel filter. You did plumb it back in the same way didnt you ?

I mean to say it didnt want to tick over this morning.

So i went out to change filter and its still the same.

So ive gone from running ruff on the motorway and limping home to having it tick over and then stall once rev.

Now it will hardly tick over.

    What the hell going on

Sorry to hear that Lewis. :(

It's strange that its only happened after you changed the spark plugs.

At least we can rule out the plugs, coilpacks and injectors as you've checked all those.

    That's ok.

Will vag com connect to the emerald ECU if it does then I will nip into the savings and get a net book and the relative software.

    No worries,

I have very little experience with all of this. I thought buying a car that had it done would be easier.

    I've hit a brick wall.
