No I didn't do it with throttle open.
Will try that tomorrow just to play safe.

So all I need is put the live probe on the connecting pins in the sockets and the other on a earth and it will bleep if it's connected

Readings are very low on all 4 cylinders I would say rings are burnt out of her due to overheating, water pump impeller went and she boiled, blown metrix carpets still wet
    sorta tells a story
Could be wrong ...But Doesn't look good
What did you pay for that car mate ?
Have you rang the seller to give him a chance to sort it ?

I'd pull the cam cover off and check cam timing once you have checked compression with WOT,

Injectors ok, coil packs ok, compression next then timing
Was there any noise or something when it started playing up?

I was on my way home. Say about 40 miles into a drive and it just started playing up on the motorway.

I was doing 60/70 and every time I put foot on accelerator it just gave me nothing.

At the moment all I get is a ticking noise. It's not a tab more like a relay/injector tap

All timing marks seem to correspond with the markings on timing belt.

I would do no more to it mate
Toyotec has offered to look at it after the 21st ..he is the man to sort it and if its been bluffed up for sale he will know the same way I would if
    I checked it over.
If that CR test is right it needs a rebuild and you have been stroked :thumbd:

The mk2 was running ok beforehand, I've actually driven it.

I swapped the K03 turbo on it for a K03s a couple of months ago, and it was running fine.

Sometimes, problems like these can arise from nowhere, just like my Mk2. Mine was running perfect for a while when me and Edd fixed the bent valve, but I've now got a cam position sensor with no signal and it's holding back at high revs for some reason ?

I will get to the bottom of it, just like i do with every problem I have ;)

Remember, these engines aren't getting any younger. I'm already thinking about building a bullet proof cylinder head on the side to eventually fit, just for piece of mind. Rods are already done, so that will just leave me the turbo, which will most likely be a hybrid.

I really hope it's an easy fix for you Lew

It happened as I drove off from the London meet on Sunday and the boys suggested it was a coil pack, the car ran on 3 cylinders practically the whole 14 mile journey home on Sunday.

Having driven it for approx 4 hours since the weekend it's been perfect, it did it on a couple of occasions today, but nearing the end of a 3 hour round trip to Hayes in Middx from North Kent, through town.

When it happened I pulled over to pull out the coil packs individually to find out if it was one of them but as soon as I popped the bonnet the problem stopped.

Could it be a wiring issue or a coil on it's way out?

Has anyone experienced anything similar or have any pearls of wisdom?

I was considering getting the car card's read or doing a tarot reading with it, but decided before I resort to such; I'd ask you good folk for help....

    Coil Pack issues. Advice needed
i'm trying to establish if it's definitely the coil packs which are causing my engine to occasionally run on 3 cylinders

It's an intermittent problem and one thats less frequent the more i've driven the car this week.

Do coil packs just go suddenly or can they deteriorate over time and play up causing the engine to only run on 3 cylinders?!

If they generally go suddenly, then that could indicate i have a wiring issue. So worst case scenario- how much of a job is it to replace the wiring loom to the coil packs?

Trying to be certain i need to replace the coil packs before i shell out on new ones as August is going to be an expensive month

    Thanks in advance guys

He should have at least mentioned the matrix. Two options really mate. Either demand your money back, or deal with it. Thats all you can really do.
Eddie has a point, the guy could have at least come on here to offer some help. He was quick enough to come on and sell it to you and people on here obviously know him. The least he could do, if you decide to keep it, is contribute towards the cost of putting it right.
Ive had issues with my mk4. Nearly sent it back, but decided to stick with it as I really liked it. Glad I did, but it did cost a bit to sort out.

Will do, just the engine's hotter than the sun when it seems to happen, but will give that ago after checking the plugs and when the problem rears it's head again .

    Will report back soon

    Cheers bud

I now think I'm spot on with the burnt rings and overheating

Please don't start a witch hunt.

The car sold as seen so it my fault really for not doing the research.

However didn't notice that one fasteddie.

Oh well you live and learn.

If it's bad news then I'm stripping and put on ebay

Engines are pretty cheap these days. That would probably be worse case scenario. If you cant send it back, stick with it mate. Have a go at doing it yourself. Hopefully it will turn out to be something simple.

I think I'm done mate. I appreciate all the support but right this moment I'm feeling pretty much deflated.

I'm going to do this comp test see what results I get and take it from there.
But if it's going to be a big job then I just don't have the resources to keep it.
