I've had my Golf on the road for two days and both days people have tried to race me. Yesterday i had an Audi RS Estate trying to race me, it was full over middle age business men and today i've had some plonker in a SLK AMG trying to race me (obviously in daddy's car). What are these guys on? I have to admit my Golf is pretty fast, but against these two cars i may as well have been in a 1.0 Nova!
sure they were trying to race you? both those cars are MUCH faster than the golf, at a guess............
Me no. I haven't been in a race for some time, and i would never race a car i was unfamilier with especially against a far more powerful car. The Audi came up behind me when i was coming onto the A1, was swerving from side to side. Sat on my back bumper for several miles and then over took and flew past me at a stupidly high speed. The SLK over took me today on the A1, then slowed down in front of me. I started to go past him, staying at the same speed, we got level then the SLK shot off again. Only to do the same sveral times!
Odd. I'd expect someone young to come on here with the naivety of thinking people in rs4s would even consider/bother racing an ageing family car designed in the 80s.
I get lots of people on the roads thinking I'm trying to race them, when, in reality, I'm trying to ram them the **** out of the way. I like a clear path in front of me, you see...
I don't think you get the point, two days running i've had nobs in expensive fast cars trying to race me. Which would mean they were either in daddy's car and having a little fun or they were looking for an ego boost as blowing away a slightly modified car is manly in some way. I never stated i had tried to race them myself, i have been driving long enough to know when someone just can't drive. 17yrs!! i wish, though i do have to admit i do look good for my age.
This ISN'T about you racing them - that point hasn't been raised. This is about you 'possibly' being mistaken they were racing you. There's no challenge in a RS4 racing a mk2 golf!! - it would be pointless, like putting a little Yorkshire terrier on a greyhound racing track! There's no element of them needing to try - they would just achieve it (unless you purposely slowed/stopped) The ownership of the car is also irrelevant.
It doesn't really matter if its 112 or 164bhp, its academic when it's pitted against 3 times as much power. 'Quick' itself is subjective. Sure, a mk2 gti is quick compared to a diesel mk2. But thats not the comparison here. Point noted about bad driving however, which brings up another interesting debate: Should owner's of prestige cars be more responsible than most? I for one would like to think so. However reality says different. But why is that.....
