Steve - Makita do an SDS drill lube, it's cheap and comes in a tube from Screwfix - this is what my mate uses on his which makes sense as they are similar weapons...

I just bought a cheap 55 incl pnp one off ebay, 24v, 320nm and 1/2" drive.

Had a pig of a job last night that kept me up til midnight in the front garden where I could of done with a impact gun.

I'll take it to the scrap yard and see how many bolts it will undo!

just bought one of the 12v machine mart jobbies, 23 inc. the dreaded

It's undone every bolt i have tried so far, including the suspension lower bolts which i found a pig before, with a half flat car battery!

I'ts not amazing but easily saved me half hour of messing with rachets and breaker bars.

Well worth the money in my eyes

    hi

just seen a 12v impact gun and wondered if it would be ok for buzzing up the top nuts on the suspension

    Hi

    Specifications:
Power Source: 12V cigerette lighter plug or battery connector
    Output power: 96W
    Cod length:4m
Sockets: 2 double ended socket covers 17mm 19 mm 21 mm 23mm nuts
    Loosen/Tighten one button control
3 digits torque display and settings

    Max Torque: 350N*M (258 ft*lb)

can have the torque adjusted to specifics

its just to tighten the top nut on the suspension that requires a allen key and a socket, as the allen key bit is partially rounded so just wantefd to buzz it up

Do it up by hand as far as possible, and give it a very brief trigger pull to nip it up.

Generally, it's not good to risk damper stems spinning inside the bodies.

i have done it by hand as far as possible then the allen key rounded so thought a quick blast on a impact gun might help

In case anyone's looking for a cordless, Auto express's last comparison came up with a Maplin (!) one as best buy

Also two previous comparisons: March 06 and Feb 08 - a couple of 12V corded ones in there too

i only really need it to do the top nut on the suspension that has a rounded allen middle.

i have to get it off as the spring has moved off the top cup now so need to get them off and sort this weekend

will it spin off the nut?

the torque looks ok to me

Something that might be worth trying is if youve got any torx / splined bits, you might be able to get one to hold in the allen socket. Don't know about the impact wrench but notice there's no torque figure quoted...

Had the same problem when trying to remove the shocks from my car. As i was changing them i HAD to use stilsons on the shock tube and alot of downward force. The only way it would budge.

    hi

    finally settled on trying

    Clarke CIR13C " Impact Wrench Kit (12V)

found some good reviews so worth a punt if not I will try the grips on the bump stop to stop the piston part spinning.

Mine too... maybe lost a little bit of power, but it's about two years old. Probably another year left in it before it shakes itself to bits.
