Got the exhaust manifold all welded up after a large amount a modification. First attempt at welding stainless tube while back purged. [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG]
Did a basic Tig course last yr. Just doin fillet welds on stainless and aluminium. I kept at the instructor to show me a small bit of tube.
How does that flywheel work when it doesn't have a smooth (hole free) surface for the clutch to grip? Cheers Paul
@Tristan. It was just a FAS course in Athlone I did. The 4-2 section is the standard Dc5 part, I just remade the 2-1 bit. Haven't the time nor patience yet to remake the 4-2 (takes forever to get all the bends etc right) it made good power with the 4-2 before but didn't like the way the 2-1 was made. I'll see how it gets on when getting mapped we have the dyno plot from this engine when it ran a Toda Racing manifold (it had longer primaries) in a different car so can compare them and see if it's loosing anything. And yep Yoof is correct, That's the final drive. Holes in it for weight reduction
Got 2 of these trick gear knobs for my own car and a mates ep3 civic. They have 2 micro switchs inside to connect to the ecu to allow flat shifting. It will switch in both directions to work with "H" pattern. The time delay etc can be programmed in the ecu. Hope to get one fitted in the civic tomorrow as it is doing a rallysprint on Saturday and would get some testing in with it to fine tune the cut time.
Finally got a bit more time at the corrado, And about time as the first race is next weekend Whether I'll make it is another thing. Suspension is all sorted and on the way back to me, new Rad arrived yesterday (old one decided to spring a leak that was u fixable) Got the new front crossmember/bumper bar all done today. Have to fab up Rad mounts and change the drysump tank mount (don't like first attempt) Got the new battery and harness installed. Harness is specific to hands device which I got last year at Autosport. [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG]
Also got some new spherical bearings cups made up. Welded them onto the wishbones at a angle so even with the camber they will have full movement as original ones were maxed out when turned the steering (they were welded on dead straight. Cut a hole in the headlight for a duct to the airfilter. [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG]
Got the new rad mount made up. Cross member just needs painting and it's all done. Gonna finish off the dry sump tank mount tomorrow. [/IMG]
@ Nige, yep looking forward to driving it. We have the flatshifting down to 200ms in my mates civic (with not short shifter. Time for some aero once I'm happy with everything
Got the new cross member all painted up and fitted and also made the dry sump tank mount. Next on the list was the exhaust so got that finished off and also managed to get the rear lower gearbox mount made up. Just need to get 2 bolts for it. Last major thing is to make new drop links for the larger 21.5mm front anti roll bar.[/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG]
Finally got out for my first race weekend with the corrado the weekend before last. i managed to get two 2nd place finishes in the "Touring" class of ITCC. Car showed good pace but still needs more work in the corners. I tried the Hankook slicks upfront in 210/610R16 as I can't get the 200/580R16 Dunlops anymore. The Hankooks were great out of the box but started going off after a few laps so I think I need to go up too 17" so I can go up to 230/610R17 slicks which should give much better grip and be able to cope with the extra power better than the 210 wide tyres. Also i'm thinking of triangulating the rear beam over the winter to help the rear as its a bit giddy on high speed corners on the kerbs. New engine and dogbox are excellent. Engine pulls like a train and I find the dogbox far more user friendly in race conditions although need to do something about the shifter as it has some play in it which caused me miss a gear once or twice. I have a few options here but I'm thinking of a billet alluminium shifter from a crowd in the states or a Sequential Shifter from SQS Racing.
