Suprised you left Blaupunkt off the list. [:s]

Blaupunkt Daytona MP53 = :) 5-6 albums on one cd.

I've got a Nakamichi CD40Z, its my favourite head unit i've had so far, it its easy to use, sounds great and it blends in with the 80's MKII dash perfectly.

My thoughts exactly, i really wanted a nak as it is plain and simple to use and it would blend in perfectly with the mk1 dash. I was all set to get one until i found out that they don't play cdr's well. Do you have any problems with playing cdr's?

Agreed they would suit the MKI down to the ground, I've personally had no problems with CDR's but to be honest I only have a handful of them and use them rarely so i could'nt say 100% for sure. Alternatively Becker make some good looking and sounding sets so they may be worth a look :)

im not a spokesman for apple or nothing, but they are honeslty great.

store all of your tunes on something the size of a cassete tape, put it in the car, use it at home on the hifi, use it as a walkman, never without music.

plus when ur not in the car niethers the ipod, which means your head nit will never get stolen, and if your good then you can hide all the speaker (by using stealth shelfs etc) and no one knows you have a stereo in your car at all. (good point when you live in birmigham). no cds to be robbed either.

you can if you go out and buy a cheap radio walkman, in fact any walkman will plug into the jack plug, as it plugs into the headphone socket onf the player.

who listens to the radio anyway, its all a load of sh!te

I'm considering a becker in the future especially since they can be bought of German ebay for a reasonable amount. Would be good to have a german head unit in a agerman car :)

I would go with alpine all the way. good for the price. you won't get much of a better sounding headunit unless you spend alot of money on a Nak or bekker.
I have had many steros in my cars and have always gone back to the alpines.
I am running a TDA7638 and a in dash TV with a rockford EPX2 and more.
i have tried Sony, Kenwood, Pioneer, panasonic, JVC and more but i have not found a better sounding stereo than my 7638. No flashing lights, no in build EQ or cross over, no gimicks just a good quality stereo.
It also has a automatic sound compensator which cancells out back ground noise.

The alpine one is built into the unit. it has got a mic on the face of the stereo. I only realy use it when driving with the windows open as it cancells out the wind noise quite well. it is not very effective if you crank up the volume.
Also it will only work well if you have got a good setup. any distorting speakers will cause problems.
