Recardo, next time we're on track come along. I can't agree that track driving puts the same stresses on the car as a thrash daann sarrrf end

And bring your camera, you could earn a few quid. ;)

I know one guy who has a very good reasion to not like them. They messed him and his car around quite badly. However i have also heard nothing but praise from Rich and a few other people. I guess they just have good days and bad days :p

Best advice is to try and do as much as you can yourself to maintain your own car. My cars had many probs itself with broken mounts etc, but just have a go, u'd be suprised at how simple some jobs are.

I'm lucky to be in an area where many vw enthusiasts live, where I've been helped many times.

lets wait and see what the verdict is before passing judgement...

Thing i'm worried is why did it happen and what can be done to minimise probability of it happening again.

Oil Coolers....can any oil coolers be fitted?
    Rad/fans...bigger/better?
Stat...can you get low temp stats or a way of bypassing easily for trackdays?
    Gasket...uprated gaskets available?

    What else can be changed/uprated?
And what should be checked for faults?

I had a a mate who had HG changed by a main stealer only for it to go again a few weeks later! Danger is for it to be changed and nothing be done about what caused it.

Mocal ones are cheap and very very good - best bet in my opinion.

    Rad/fans...bigger/better?

Plenty of options available, but maybe increasing flow over the cores (like TT said) is an issue that neds adressing.

Stat...can you get low temp stats or a way of bypassing easily for trackdays?

The water will never be low enough on a track day to warrant that. This ties in with the above question. I think a custom radiator should be looked at. Possible with 2 Pacet fans rather than the VW items. 1 on the stat and 1 manually switched (something i am looking at..)

    Gasket...uprated gaskets available?
    Pass.

Rich - gutted for you mate! not what you like to see happen! [:^(]

I've just spent ages reading the whole topic, its funny reading about peoples views about road/track driving and what amazes me how quick people are to pin the blame!

anyway lets hope it all gets sorted for you and you can be back out on track as soon as! [:D]

no see this is my point. no one is actually hearing what im saying.

im saying that its down to the driver not where the car is driven. since we were discussing warenty here.

and your saying you can cause more damage on the track in your car than the road.....well i would have thought you could.

i can cause more damage on the roads than some slower people on the track. so my point is why shouldnt that slower person be allowed warenty to somone like me who will push there car on the road as well

it looks to me like its a case of internet arguing and we are arguing over 2 different things

    :)

Recardo, your car looks good from the pics, be careful if you take it out on track. I would also say that you will need to spend a bit of time preparing it for track - theres no way the car will handle particularly well unless you raise it a touch, until the wishbones are level at least.

Oh, and for my two penneth on the track/road subject, theres no way the two compare, the track is much harder on the car (and the driver)

oh if i went on track i would raise it back up about 15mm. id also want arb's but everything else i think is fine.

but yes i would be holding back because my car is my life at the moment, if i rolled it.....which i can see me doing coz i like to push things to the limit ;) . i really would cry

i think ill be taking the r1 on track first. :)

    Recardo,

Havn't you now just contradicted everything you've been saying how road use can be comparable to track use, by saying that you're likely to crash it?

Surely that means you're more likely to be pushing harder than on a road, hence increase stress on the car?
