seen a few 20v's popping HGs recently. Could be any number of reasons, sensors failing and the DTA ecu advancing the timing until it knocked its head off (aftermarket EMS lack the safety nets their OEM counterparts have). Injector overheating after being pushed at 100% duty cycles for prolonged amounts of time, lean mixture etc etc. EGT and/or lambda gauge would have picked that up though (worthy investment BTW). Slightly too 'adventurous' map taking its toll on a stock engine. The list goes on.
Why will you end up paying for it? Its not like its been done that long. Even if it is the head gasket how is it supposed to be your fault? Do DD not give warranties on their work then?
lets see what Matt finds before starting to get angry there are many reasons for headgaskets to go lets see what the diagnosis is before apportioning blame.
HGs gone on my valver - what are the options and costs of having it done? Have been quoted 400-500!! Sorry for hijack
to be honest if i was DD i'd be picking up the bill. rich has been a big advert for DD since his car is very well known on the scene. everyone is going to hear about it. and they will hear how he had to pay for it again this is only if it wasnt rich's fault
For arguements sake then, the problem originated from a component failure - who is to blame then? Neither party right? Two sides to the arguements, Rich will be thinking that why should he pay for something that he hasnt done or caused, but conversely why should DD pay for something like that also? Also, what are the terms of the warrenty rich? Is it miles or time related? And does it mention anything about being used on track?
I'd say goin on track is jus one of those things that has risks, you could crash, get hit, kill engine, or any other number of things. One of the hazards, you know the risks before you go on.
i dont think being on a track makes a blind bit of difference. you can drive hard on public roads. burn outs, read lining etc yeah id like to know what the 6 months warenty is for.
Of course track makes a difference. Some of the oil temps GVK and tub report from being on track you'd doo bloody well to replicate on the road!!!!
I dont think that I explained myself well, what I meant is that if a rad fan switch failed which led to bigger problems, then a 10 component failure isnt quite the same as a 1K engine repair bill
count how many seconds/minutes at a time you are accelerating with your foot on the floor, and the same with the brakes full on - does that compare with the road? Or should I say track (DOH!) Edited by: MK2Coup
i have had my car over 115 degrees on the road. what im saying is if you red line it on the road its no different to relining on a track. if i do a 150mile trip down to wales pushing 110 - 130 all the way. are you saying a 20 min session on a track is worse?? i think not. on top of that it wasnt even a hot day. if its gonna blow up on a cold day what chance has it got really
Recardo - go to a trackday and get a pax ride in someones car, whatever make or model it may be. There is no way that you can drive in the same manner on the road to a track. The traffic makes it impossible for one, not to mention the failsafe mode in the brain that makes you go round a corner a touch slower because you cant see whats at the exit Why do you think that car manufacturers take somewhere like the Nurburgring so seriously? A place such as that tests the limits of the car like nowhere else, and the same applies when any road car goes on any track and gets driven reasonably hard
