You'd be surprised actually... ive been round a load of track days in my old trolley on 239s with no problem all day long (say 10 laps or so at a time and then in for a cool down) good brake fluid, adequate cooling and good condition pads and discs is more important than massive brake conversions which make mk1s dangerously overbraked 256mm from a mk2 is the biggest a mk1 needs any more is a waste and dangerous too Edited by: krytie
Right, lets clear up some points. 1) recardo - when have i ever done a burnout in my car?? 2) I have hardly EVER hit the rev limiter in my car, yes i drive it hard, but i let it warm up correctly and cool down correctly, i never thrash a cold engine and even when its warm i hardly ever go above 6000 rpm, theres no point as most torque is around 4000 rpm anyway. 3) There is a discrepancy in this warranty which is what I was confused about. In my original quote the only thing stated was 6 months warranty so hence my query on the matter. Edited by: richgit
When me and the old man tracked the M5 it got the pasting of its life. The car was so hot when it came to rest the exhaust was cherry red and the tailpipes stuck out an extra 15mm Im suprised no one has commented on the map. Making an engine run that far out of its parameters is going to put undue stress. My money is on the engine leaning out due to high duty cycles, rich not knowing and the engine detting blowing away one of the sections of HG.
ok fair enough the website states the conditions but then why doesnt it on richs quote. what if you dont have the internet and you go to DD surely the quote should say the same as the website. something fishy going on. Edited by: RECARDO
And it wouldnt be the first 1.8T to have engine probs whether it be a standard map, or hugely modded with internal work also. Who did the mapping on Rich's car? Its on DTA right?
was the warranty a written quote, an email or a verbal explanation of the terms and conditions? Not that it really matters, the T&C's of a company can be changed at any point and will supercede those that were in place before. Think of what your bank will send you periodically when they change stuff to do with how the interest is calculated on your overdraft (and how many people actually read those things anyway )
I dunno I dont run my own business (I wouldnt have the time to surf the net if I did) so I only know what I have read and been told before, but I dont think that the conditions of their warranty are going to ruin the companies reputation
I guess that we are only speculating at the end of the day, we're not involved apart from commenting on here
no i mean if the warenty is changed after you bought something. you said a company can do that. i said if they did i would ruin there reputation
Thats great news I have a f**ked 8v lump in my garden, i'll sell it with 6 months guarantee then change it to 1 hour guarantee as soon as i sell it
usually warrentees are not retroactive i.e. you can't supercede t&c's on items people have already paid for, but obviously anything newly bought goes under the new conditions. banks get round this by having 'maturity' and 'subject to review' clauses etc etc
well if i'd paid so much money for a conversion I'd be pretty upset....whatever terms and conditons may be in place. Thats why i put faith in my own two hands and no one elses.... I build my engine, I break it, I fix it. Saves so much agro....And if I don't know how to do it...then I'll learn.
